New release of enterprise library 4.1 has been published. It supports .NET Framework 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008 SP1.

Yesterday when i was browsing the Microsoft site for new releases , i found that Microsoft has released the prebeta version of Visual Studio 2010. You can download and enjoy the prebeta bits from this location

” Improved WPF designers
” SQL Server 2008 support

Step 1: Downloaded the startup service pack exe from the Microsoft web site.

2) Double click on the exe and the installer will gather files as shown below

It took around 30 Minutes for me to download the service pack and proceed to step 2 , earlier in VS2005 , it took lot of time but now its reduced very drastically!

One of the intermediate steps does install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 so there is no need to install it separately

I am in last step of Installing Service Pack

Once the install completes, the following window will be displayed and you need to reboot your computer to make the changes effective.

We have started using windows workflow foundation in one of our project, I just thought of sharing my learning experiences with the community.
What is a workflow? A workflow is nothing but sequence of activities executed together to accomplish a task. For example to get a loan, we need to perform the following activities
1. Visit Financial Institution
2. Apply for the loan
3. Submit documentation
4. Validate Credit history
5. Grant Loan or Reject loan
The above constitute a simple workflow.
Today we will talk about how to create a simple sequence workflow in Visual studio 2008.
What is a sequence workflow? Sequence of activities followed in particular order to accomplish a task constitutes a sequence workflow.
Start the Visual studio 2008 and create a simple sequence console workflow application as shown below

Once you click on “Ok” you will see the below window, with project being created successfully

Windows workflow provides a quite a lot of activities out of the box, today we will discuss how to use “Code activity”
“Code activity” helps us to execute any custom code you want to execute on a workflow process.

Drag and drop the code activity on Workflow designer

The red icon indicates that activity is not complete. We need to wire up the action which needs to happen when the workflow process hits the code activity

When the workflow process hits the Code activity it will execute the code associated with the method – “ExecuteCode”

Let us run the console application

Today we have seen how to setup a code activity and tomorrow we will see how to use Throw and fault handler activity.
